ENGAGED COUPLES: BEFORE YOU JUMP THE BROOM
SUMMARY
All engaged couples who desire to be married 1) at any SPBC campus or 2) by any SPBC pastor should attend the Engaged Couples “Before You Jump the Broom Session”. These sessions are designed with engaged couples in mind to prepare you for the wonderful covenant journey that lies ahead. Topics that make or break or marriage are discussed in ways that will connect the religious perspective with real life situations.
Topics include Communication, Finances, Expectations, and Conflict Resolution. The sessions will be interactive and there may be homework. Marriage is not to be taken lightly and our goal is to provide a foundational framework upon which you can build a lifetime of happiness with your spouse.
WHAT TO EXPECT
You can expect to be warmly greeted and participate in an icebreaker that will be fun and engaging. You will meet other couples who will be also be getting married, thus providing an opportunity for additional relationships. You will have time to interact, not just with your fiancé but also with others in the class. You will receive spiritual nuggets from God’s word to support the topic at hand in a non-judgmental way. Each session will not only include Biblical wisdom, but also candid conversations and testimonies from real married couples. These couples will be at various stages of their married life and you will have the opportunity to ask questions. Sample Topics include: Family, Finances, Marriage Mentoring & much more.
WHAT YOU NEED
• Bring a Bible (any version).
• Bring something to write with and something to write on.
• Be prompt and sign in each time you come to class.
• Please participate in order to get the most from the sessions.
• Please come with an open mind.

COST
There is no cost to come to these sessions. We are investing in you and our prayer is that you would invest your time energy and commitment with prompt, consistent, and participatory attendance. You may register online through our website.
TIME REQUIREMENT
Eight classes are offered each quarter. You are free to attend whatever session you choose prior to your wedding date. Attendance will be taken at each session. Please note that your officiating SPBC minister may also desire to meet with you and your fiancé in order to build relationship and to talk with you in a more intimate setting so please allow some time for that as well.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Q: What is the process flow once we decide to get married at one of the SPBC campuses?
A: First you would contact our Wedding Services team at 643-6170 x 5390. You will hear information about what is necessary and be asked to leave specific information on the voicemail. You will be called back by one of our Wedding Services team leader. Upon contact, you will be provided with a packet of information, paperwork and will be allowed to select an officiating minister from the church. They will confirm that minister’s availability while serving you, and be the liaison between you and your fiancé and the church requirements and protocol.
Q: I have kids and need child care in order to come to the sessions. How do I register them for the Kids Encounter Bible study?
A: EXCLUSIVELY AVAILABLE ON 2nd/4th Thursdays ONLY* You would simply take your child to the second floor of the Children’s wing, sign them in, and receive a pager from the registration team. If there is a problem with your child, your pager will go off so you can come and see about them. Please ensure that your child has eaten prior to coming. Light snacks are often given, but may not be available each time.
Q: I can’t make classes on Thursday nights because of my schedule. What should I do?
A: Talk with your officiating minister from SPBC and come up with a way to get your counseling done. We don’t recommend that any couple move forward with marriage without receiving adequate pre-marital counseling. The covenant of marriage is too serious to not receive adequate support and helpful tools.

DESCRIPTION: A Group of trained, seasoned married couples who will mentor other couples for the purpose of strengthening, sustaining and enhancing marriages & families.
